The UK Government has announced plans to support the training and employment of 1,000 new youth workers across England, with the first workers expected to be in place by spring 2027.

The youth workers will support young people aged 11 and over in communities across England, including through youth centres and outreach programmes. The initiative aims to help young people develop skills, build confidence and access support, while helping reduce the risk of young people becoming not in education, employment or training (NEET).

The announcement forms part of wider plans to invest in youth services, including a £450 million Youth Matters Fund, which will support improvements to youth facilities and activities such as sport, music and volunteering.

The initiative highlights the importance of accessible youth services and community spaces in helping young people build positive futures.
