On Monday the 14th of September, I woke up to the news that my favourite aunt had died.
She was my father’s younger sister.

This was my tribute to my Aunty Grace.

Hmmmmm… Words fail me. My beautiful Aunty Grace.

My heart sank at the news of your departure.
You made my childhood memorable and delightful with all your amazing stories.
You were such a great storyteller that one could almost see, feel, and even taste everything you described in a succinct way.
You taught me lessons of why it was important to be well-behaved and the consequences of being a bad person.
You were a kind and generous person who would go to any length to celebrate with those who celebrated and mourned with all who mouned.
You had a simple view of life, and that made you different, but that was one of the things I loved and admired the most about you.

I will miss you so much.
Sickness took you away from me long before death came along.

One of our earlier memories of you when you and Uncle Jones tied the knot. We were extremely excited and couldn’t wait to call you – our ‘Grace Jones’!

I will work hard to see that your dream of ‘storytelling’ comes true, if the Lord Jesus tarries. This is a promise from ‘your Noro’.

There were no dull moments with you around. You had such a sharp memory that kept us abreast of past events in the family. The good, the bad, and the ugly.

You beat cancer twice! You were a fighter, too! Strong and resilient. This time, God has called you to rest at His side.

You will be sorely missed.

Thank you for making our childhood literally sweet, with all the wide variety of local candy and snacks – sweet and savoury, which you would always distribute to us, as you told us those sweet stories.

What a combination!

What a childhood, made so memorable by you.

Thank you, Ngo Lydi. Thank you, our Aunty Grace Alheri Gyem Pwol.

As I type these words, I can not hold back the tears as this sad reality begins to sink in.
May you rest in peace, my dearest Aunty Grace, until we meet at Jesus’ feet to part no more.

Your lovely niece,
Noro
